CREE NATION UPDATES ON PROJECTS

CREE NATION UPDATES ON PROJECTS

From our December 2014 Business Exchange Day, one of our speakers informs the business community about his department. Mr. Donald Nicholls, Director, Justice and Correctional Services at Cree Nation Government, presented the department and its priorities and plans. Committed to safe and strong communities, the Department has invested approximately $50 million to build 9 new ultra-modern justice facilities and supporting structures through an agreement with the Government of Quebec. The Cree Nation Government is also looking to invest in more capital projects and services in the next few years, which may include regional women’s shelters, youth facilities, land based camps for youth detainees at risk and other programs for the reintegration of people coming through the detention and justice systems.  Investments for the improvement of reintegration could be through the building of transitional units for individuals transitioning from programs, detention or court ordered placements. The department continues to be committed to building strong relationships with stakeholders such as communities, governments, entities, other departments and the business community.
